Where Have All the Old Cellular Phones Gone?

The last time I visited my cousins, I saw three old models of mobile phones dumped in one corner of the house.  When asked what  they intend to do with those phones, I didn’t get a sensible answer.  In my desire to help them dispose old mobile phones, which I know is also our problem as the cellular phone Capital of the world, I shared with them a bit of  information I know.  Of course my cousins know that old mobile phone and its battery should not be dumped in household trash because they have complex components that need special handling.

Obviously my cousins haven’t noticed ( and for you who haven’t been observant, too) that there are conspicuous signs in selected malls where you will find bins to drop your old phones if you do not intend to sell it or pass it on to anyone. I saw one in SM North.  I gathered that this is a project of the Board of Investments, with the support of major mobile phone manufacturers and network providers.  These phones can also be returned to their manufacturers and they’ll take care of disposal.  My sense is most will find it inconvenient to visit manufacturers” center so next time you go malling, which everybody does, do our environment a favor.  Bring your old phones and batteries and look for those bins. Think of the  harm these non-biodegradable and their potentially toxic components can do to Mother Earth.
